I caught the entrepreneurial bug when I was 24 years old.  My first job out of college was in the marketing department of the biggest luxury retail fashion company in Santa Barbara. After getting a solid foundation of online fashion marketing, I dreamt of a screen printing shop where I could print my art onto clothing and utilize my art degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  So, I quit my job, found a commercial space to rent, and built a beautiful screen printing shop in the Funk Zone of Santa Barbara.

Six years later, on my 30th birthday, I found out I was pregnant.  In my third trimester, I closed down my first baby (my business), and sold it.  I gave birth to a healthy little girl named Soleil Brightyn.  I was determined to figure out how to raise a baby AND make money for myself at the same time.  One day, I walked out to my garage and dusted off my old trucker hat printer.  I made a few phone calls to my former buyers, got a few wholesale orders and started making hats again.  I dreamt up my rebirth and called it Mothersun and the Captain.  I would start making trucker hats again while my baby crawled around at my feet in my studio by the sea.

While starting this business, I became a single mother and escaped a situation that was soooo not my truth.  I turned to Mothersun and the Captain as a tool to find my strength again.  I began drawing powerful goddesses and writing positive affirmations and would hang them on my walls to remind me to stay strong during the most intense healing period of my life.  Then I started printing them on products to sell in my store.  I shared bits of my story of single motherhood on social media and in time, I built a little online community of women who helped support me and who I helped support as well.

Today I am living my dream.  I have a super supportive and loving Husband I manifested through all of my healing.  We both got married for the first time at the age of 35, and y'all, he's even a Sea Captain!  He has taken on Soleil as if she were his own, and we made our own baby girl, Echo Ocean.  We are expecting our 2nd baby together in April/May of 2025.  Together, we own and operate Mothersun as well as The Good Captain Co.  Stay tuned to see everything we are up to and all the products we are making.

My goal is to inspire women to manifest their dreams and to never ever settle.  Our company has donated thousands of dollars to organizations and to mamas in need including the Santa Barbara Birth Center, PACE International, Our Rescue, and The Postpartum Clinic.  I have the most supportive community of mothers and women and we gather over on Instagram at @mothersunandthecaptain.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being on this journey with me.  Your presence here means everything to
my Family and I.

Love,
Lindsey
